Your accommodation
for a hiking vacation in the Virgen Valley
The Virgen Valley in East Tyrol begins near Matrei and leads to the Umbal Falls. Due to its west-east orientation, the valley gets particularly much sunshine and is thus wonderfully suited for hiking in East Tyrol. To the south it is bordered by the Lasörling ridge, while to the north the Venediger group protects the Virgen valley from the Tauern wind. Towering above everything is the mighty Großvenediger with a height of 3,657 meters, which is a popular destination for mountaineers from all over the world in summer.
By the way, around the Virgen Valley there are more than 60 three-thousand-meter peaks that invite you to go mountain hiking in East Tyrol. To ensure that your dream of summit happiness really comes true, it is best to entrust yourself to a certified mountain guide. Many of these peaks are high alpine undertakings and also lead over glaciers. You can get a wonderful view of the glaciated world of the Großvenediger while hiking on one of the high-altitude trails. On these trails you move high above the Virgen Valley from hut to hut. Very well known are the Venediger and the Lasörling high-altitude trail, which are easy to reach from the Rose Inn in Virgen in East Tyrol.
Hiking in the Hohe Tauern
For a hiking vacation with the family, there are of course plenty of destinations in the Hohe Tauern National Park that are easy to reach. From Virgen, which lies at an altitude of around 1,200 meters, many hiking tours lead to the surrounding alpine pastures and huts. There you can expect not only a dreamlike view, often reaching as far as the Großglockner, but also many of the typical local delicacies for which East Tyrol is so well known. For some, they are the true reward when hiking in the Hohe Tauern.
Of course, you can also hike the Hohe Tauern National Park by yourself or you can let a national park ranger show you some hidden corners and places. There are also numerous well-signposted educational trails in the national park that lead you to various places worth seeing while hiking and also inform you about the special features of the Hohe Tauern.
